Masaya Kajiwara

At 19, Masaya was the youngest participant in Hidden Histories. Seven years earlier he had graduated from Amatsuke Elementary, the focus of the memories he shared with me. The school had closed the year prior due to low enrollment, but Masaya spoke of its low student population as its strength. He told me how it caused each of the students to take more leadership and responsibility and to look out for each. Going on to middle and high school, it was often the students from Amatsuke who ran for student council, he said. People might not realize the strengths of such a small school, but there are many, he said. He summed up his feelings by writing "Amatsuke: One for all and all for one."
