Mr. Kishitani is a city employee who for me has always embodied the warmth and humor of people in Ushibuka. He told me about living in the town while his son was small and going on daily walks to the port. Together they waved to the fisherman as they came back from their days at sea.
"I remember fun times I had with my small son during our evening walks. Stern-looking departing fisherman waved at my son, smiling from their boats. My son, unintimidated, waved back energetically with his small body. I said softly to my son, “Grow up to be a strong man. Keep after your dreams without giving up”.
